Legend has it that during its sea voyage, the coffee was exposed to so much rain and sea that it completely changed character upon arrival. Today, it is produced under controlled conditions on the Indian Malabar Coast.

After harvesting and drying, the coffee is placed in large open halls along the Malabar Coast in southern India. When the monsoon rains come inland, the coffee is affected by rain and seawater, before being dried by the sun, where the coffee is constantly turned while drying. This process is repeated several times before it is packaged.
